Dear ADOC Volunteers,

As we prepare for the coming year, the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) would like to thank you for your dedicated service, ministry, and support across our facilities.

To maintain safe, secure, and effective operations, ADOC has updated its training and approval procedures for 2027. All returning and prospective volunteers must complete the required online training and meet background check requirements to maintain access to ADOC facilities.

Important Note on Fingerprinting & NCIC Background Checks:

• Frequent Volunteers: If you serve more than 8 times per year in a facility, you must schedule an in-person NCIC background check (which includes fingerprinting and a Law Enforcement Services Division interview). You can reserve your site and time slot directly on the training website: www.adocvolunteering.com.
• Completed Fingerprinting Already? If you have already completed the in-person NCIC background check, you are only required to complete the online training for 2027.
• 2026 Grace Period: If you completed your training at any point in 2026, you have until December 31, 2027 to update your training under these new procedures.

Which Course Do You Need?

How to Get Started

1. Go to the Training Portal: Visit www.adocvolunteering.com and click Log in. Create a new account (or sign into your existing account).  IMPORTANT:  Please use your legal name when creating and/or updating your account.
2. Complete Your Profile: Fill out the sign-up form using all lowercase letters for your username. Select the appropriate course and fill in your group sponsor and primary facility.
3. Confirm Your Account: Click the confirmation link sent to your email (be sure to check your spam/junk folder if you don't see it promptly).
4. Enroll in Your 2027 Course: Select your designated course from the home page and click Enroll me.
5. Complete Quizzes & Obtain Certificate: Review the materials and achieve the required passing score for each exam. Your completion certificate will unlock automatically once passed.

Please note: Completing online training alone does not automatically authorize facility entry. Entry is contingent upon full background approval and coordination with the institutional chaplain or volunteer coordinator.

Which courses and quizzes am I required to take?

1. Contractors & Vendors - take the Contractor & Vendor Course and pass the PREA quiz only
2. Religious Volunteers - take the Religious Volunteer Course and pass both the PREA & Chaplaincy quizzes
3. Non-Religious Volunteers - take the General Volunteer Course and pass both the PREA & General Volunteer quizzes 
4. Volunteers at Women's Facilities - take the Women's Services Training Course and pass the Women's Services Training quiz and/or:  

       o    Religious – volunteers must also pass the Chaplaincy Quiz

              o    Non-Religious Volunteers – must also pass the General Volunteer Quiz
